During the pandemic, we were all but forced to stay in our homes. Movie theaters, restaurants, and stores closed, while trips to the grocery store were rare. Schools even closed their doors and required kids to learn from home. This time was not good for morale and robbed us of some of our favorite joys in life. Thank goodness things are getting better.
It may already be June, but 2021 is not over yet! The world was still in a state of upheaval back in January, but with things getting back to normal, it is time to get out there and try something new. After over a year of being cooped up, it is time to take that trip, change up your wardrobe, and go out to dinner. There is no better way to give thanks to getting up and getting out than trying some new things in 2021.
- Fashion
Fashion was still riding in the backseat during the beginning of 2021. The majority of the public let their personalities shine through with the different types of masks they wore. Everywhere you looked you could see sports teams, favorite cartoons, bands, and sayings hanging the faces of everyone. Curious about what someone was into? Just check out their mask.
Remote work and school allowed us to work in more relaxed clothing such as sweatpants, t-shirts, casual wear, and, sometimes, even our pajamas. We seldom wore shoes, we donned glasses instead of contacts, and comfort became a number one priority. Because most retail establishments were closed, the only clothing we bought usually came from online retailers who delivered items straight to our doors.
Now that all of your favorite places to shop are open again, it is time to spruce up your wardrobe. Because it is June, that means you have your choice between bathing suits and shorts or back to school and the office threads. You may have done a little spring cleaning and cleaned out your closets in preparation for this time of the year. Now that you have some space in your closets and drawers some things you want to add to your wardrobe might include:
- Shoes
- Shorts
- Sandals /Sootheez
- T-shirts
- Swimwear
- pants/jeans

Maybe adding to your closet is not what you have in mind. Maybe you want to revamp your style altogether. One area to consider is trying out a new hairstyle. There are many trends that have emerged this year. Popular styles include:
- Mullets
- Rainbow colored hair
- Undercuts
- Shorter styles
- Military cuts
- bobs
You have been cooped up way too long. Go out and be seen!
- Food
News of restaurants closing has been a hot topic of conversation everywhere during the Pandemic it seems. Many establishments were forced to close their doors temporarily; others did not make it out all in the end.
Food delivery services have risen in popularity with their “contactless-delivery” slogans. It seems like overnight many restaurants began delivering and new services pooped up. Services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, Post Mate, and others offered delivery from just about any restaurant imaginable.
Your family has really enjoyed home cooked meals and takeout, but everyone is getting a little bored of eating the same old stuff all the time. Restaurants are finally opening back up, so this is time to go out and eat at all of your favorite places.
You could even make an effort to try some new places. Searching the internet, or driving through your neighborhood could yield some interesting dining options. Some different categories of food you may want to check out include:
- Chinese/Japanese/Sushi
- Indian
- Hispanic
- Thai
- Greek
- Italian
- Jamaican
- Organic Thistle
It is time to go out and treat yourselves!
- Gadgets
When we started staying home more, many of us began exploring the tech world more. Technology has become a huge part of our lives over time, but its importance has skyrocketed since the onset of Covid. Because of it being such a big necessity, technology equity has risen, so most people have some sort of device. Things that brought about these changes were:
- Remote work
- Virtual school
- Online meeting for work and socialization
- Online enrichment and workshop classes
- E-doctor’s visits
- Online shopping
As far as hobbies go, some people indulged in gaming, streaming, and putting themselves on apps, such as Tik Tok and YouTube. It seems like everything is “smart” now.
The devices to help with all of these activities are vast in number. Most people are familiar with the majority, but if you are curious about something you do not own, maybe you should try something new in 2021. Options include:
- Smart TVs
- Smartwatches
- Xbox X Series/PS5
- Convertible tablets
- Smart glasses
- Multi Monitor computer set-ups
The list goes on and on!
- Entertainment
A huge drawback to the quarantine was the lack of entertainment. Being restricted to our homes, unless we got our entertainment from the internet or television, our families were our only real source of socialization. This caused a huge dip in morale, and we were definitely feeling it.
The entertainment world just about completely shut down. There did not seem to be an area that was not affected by the situation. Things that ground to halt include:
- Film making
- Concerts
- Book signings
- Movie showings
- Tabletop gaming
- Bars and Restaurants
- Comedy shows
Things are not back to a 100% Covid-free world yet, but there are more entertainment options now than during the pandemic. Some of our favorite places to visit that have reopened at least half capacity include:
- Amusement parks
- Movie theaters
- Family fun parks
- Pools
- Water parks
- Bars
- Sporting events
- Outdoor Life
We have not spent a lot of time outdoors during the first half of 2021. Since it is summer, the opportunities to spend some time out of the house are free-flowing. The streets, parks, and shopping areas in most towns are currently a flurry of activity. Popular choices for summer outings vary from person to person like with everything else, but they generally consist of shopping, beach trips, vacations, cruises, and trips to see family who live further away.
There are a ton of other options for those who would like to venture into uncharted territory and try something new. Now is as good of a time as any to get out there and go on an adventure. Unconventional fun is the name, and several games include:
- Skydiving
- Scuba Diving
- Learning how to fly a drone
- Flying lessons
- Long-distance hiking
- Sailing
- Marathons
If the edge-of-your-seat adventure does not do it for you, there are many other more traditional activities to consider trying to get up and moving that you may not have tried before. They include:
- Camping
- A beach trip
- A cruise
- A road trip
- Sightseeing in a new town
- Swimming
It never hurts to try new things. This last half of 2021 is a great time as any to break up the monotony of life and spice things up a little bit. Whether it be your personal style, getting a new gadget, going on an outdoor adventure, or anything else that you have wanting to try on for size, thinking outside the box and breaking out it could be a worthwhile endeavor for you. Try something new in 2021!
