It’s a shame that the world still knows so little about Sikkim beyond Gangtok and Gurudongmar Lake. The tiny state in the north-eastern part of India has much more to offer tired travelers. Sikkim’s offbeat destinations have plenty to offer those tired of urban life.

Here are some great places to unwind in Sikkim if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the office and get away from your mobile phone. These 5 places are a must-see for anyone looking for unusual hill destinations in your Sikkim tour packages.

1 Rolep

A small, picturesque village of Virgins. It is hidden away in the middle of nature. It is located at 4000ft and only 20km from Rongli, East Sikkim. It is a sanctuary on the slopes of green Himalayan foothills, with views of the Rangpo Khola River Valley.

This is a paradise for birdwatchers and a place where you can find solace. You don’t need to bring an agenda. You can test your Angling skills by aiming for the trout in the Shokey Khola River. Enjoy brisk village walks. Visit the Buddha waterfalls, 45 feet high. Rejuvenate and enjoy the lush greenery. Tourists love hot stone baths. Chochen Lake and Dekeling Monastery are two of the most important places to visit.

Rolep is without doubt one of Sikkim’s most unusual destinations.

How to Get Rolep

Air: The closest airport is. Pakyong. It is located at 76 km and takes approximately 3.5 hours – 4 hours to get there. You can also take Bagdogra International Airport which is approximately 143 km away. It will take you about 4 hr – 4.5 hours to get there.

Train: New Jalpaiguri is the nearest railway station. It is approximately 135 km away and will take between 4 and 4.5 hours to reach.

Car Distance: Rolep lies 687 km from Kolkata. Two halts will be required, one in Malda and another in Siliguri. On the third day, you will be able to proceed towards Rolep Village.

2 Singtam Village

The village of Singtam located 42 kilometers from Gangtok but 98 km from Siliguri is a traveler’s paradise. This village is close to the Temi Tea Garden and sure to catch the eye of any traveler. The village of Singtam, surrounded by forest on one side and farmlands on the other, is ideal for walking and enjoying traditional village life.

Many people come to this village to fish, as Khalej Khola can be found just 2km away. This village offers bird watching and fishing as well as walking. For forest treks, Singtam is a great choice. Trek to Maenam la or Tendong Hill. To reach Tendong Hill, which is an extinct volcano, walk through dense forests.

Air: Pakyong Airport is the nearest airport. It is approximately 50 km away and will take between 2 and 2.5 hours to get there. You can also take Bagdogra International airport, which is approximately 114 km away. It will take around 3.5 hours to 4 hours.

Train: New Jalpaiguri is the nearest railway station. It is approximately 108 km away and will take about 3.5 hours to 4 hours.

Distance by Car: Singtam lies 659 km from Kolkata. Two halts will be required, one in Malda, and one in Siliguri. On the third day, your route will lead you to Singtam.

3 Gangtok Offbeat

Capital of Sikkim, a mountainous northern state. It was founded as a Buddhist pilgrimage spot, and the Enchey Monastery was built in 1840. After the British ruled ended, the city was made the capital of an independent monarchy. It joined India in 1975. It is located at an elevation of 5,410 feet (1650 meters). It is located in the eastern Himalayan range.

It is home to a large population of Lepchas, Nepalese, and Bhutias. Gangtok is the centre of Sikkim’s tourism industry. The two streams Roro Chu (west) and Ranikhola (east) flank the city. Gangtok offers a breathtaking view of Mount Kanchenjunga, as well as natural beauty.

4 Ravangla

It is a small tourist settlement at 7000 feet in South Sikkim. It is located between Gangtok and Pelling and serves as the starting point for the trek to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary (65 km from Gangtok). It is a picturesque town with clear views of Mt Kanchenjunga and Mt Pandim as well as Mt Siniolchu.

This is the perfect tourist destination, with its exotic flora & fauna and natural waterfalls. You can find inner peace at the Bonn Monastery or Ralang Monastery. The historical Market of Kewzing is a great place to shop and the small, mysterious caves are a good option for adventure. Tourists love Ralang Cha Chu and Borong, which are sulfur springs. Temi Tea Gardens should be visited to experience the tea journey from the Gardens to your cup.

5 Borong

A charming village located in the southern region of Sikkim. It is located at 5,800 feet, offering its visitors a spectacular view of Mt Siniolchu Mt Narsing, and Mt Pandim. You can get an adrenaline rush by climbing up River Rangil

You can also visit Ralong Monastery and Bating Monastery from this location. Vyanjan Valley, Bamelli Bridge. To see paper being made in an old Japanese manner, visit the paper factory.

Car Distance: Borong lies 692 km from Kolkata. Two halting stops will be required in Malda and Siliguri. On the third day, you will be able to proceed towards Borong.
