Eligibility criteria for this course

To begin with, a CSM certification is an entry-level qualification provided by the Scrum Alliance. To get this certification, you need to complete a certified scrum master course.

For this credential, you need to attend a 16-hour (two-day) training session facilitated by a trainer, known as a Certified Scrum Trainer.

In this training session, you will learn about the following things:

Along with this training session, you will also need to be well-versed with the following materials and resources that are provided by the Scrum Alliance:

  •   Understanding of Scrum Framework
  •   Principles of Scrum
  •   Practices of Scrum

You can learn about these concepts through the Scrum Alliance’s expert blog, videos, presentations, reports, and member articles.

Examination layout

To appear for the examination, you must attend the 2-day training session as well as learn about Scrum from the different resources directly provided by the Scrum Alliance.

You need to appear for this certified scrum master examination within 90 days of attending the training session. If you exceed 90 days, you have to pay a small fee (approximately $25) to take the examination.

This examination can be taken through Scrum Alliance’s portal. The duration of the examination is 1 hour (60 minutes). There will be 35 questions in the exam. These questions will be a mix of true/false statements and multiple-choice questions.

The main topics that these questions will cover consist of scrum roles, scrum knowledge, scrum artifacts, and scrum meetings. To pass, all you have to do is get 24 answers right.

Future prospects

Once you pass this exam, you’ll get your license. This license is valid for 2 years after which you have to renew it.
