Our eyelashes, just like the hairs on our heads, have a natural growth cycle. This growth cycle has three different stages for the lashes on your upper and lower lash line.

The three stages of eyelash growth are anagen, telogen, and catagen, and knowing these phases can help you if you are looking for natural eyelash growth.

Let’s get to know more about the growth phases of eyelashes in detail:

Anagen (Growth Phase):

This is the stage when your eyelashes grow, and it takes about two weeks to complete. Your lashes will grow from the root follicles during this phase of eyelash growth and if your lashes fall during this phase then they will not grow back quickly.

Telogen (Resting Phase):

This is the phase when your lashes rest on your lash line, so there will not be quick growth like you see in the anagen phase. It lasts for about four to 9 months, but it varies from one person to another.

Catagen (Degradation Phase):

This is the end phase of the growth cycle, and for about 2-3 weeks, the root of the hair follicle will start shrinking and then it will become hard, and then eventually it will fall, making room for a new lash to grow in its place.

Now not all over lashes grow through each of these cycles at the same time, some of your lashes may be in the catagen phase while the others may be in the resting phase and some of them may be growing.

Now, it is fact that you cannot prevent the fall of your lashes in their catagen or the degradation phase, but there are ways to prevent premature falling of lashes if it occurs in the anagen phase and the telogen phase.

How to prevent eyelash loss in the Anagen Phase and the Telogen Phase?

Use a gentler make-up product on your lashes, as there are times when you may not even realize it and your mascara or even your eyeliner or eyeshadow could be too harsh for your eyelashes which makes them weak, and weaker eyelashes tend to fall off easily.

If you are switching to a new brand of make-up, do a patch test, and if you are using waterproof mascara every day, it types to go over to the non-waterproof side as the former ones are extremely drying and difficult to remove which not only makes your lashes fall off prematurely but also inhibits their future growth.

Even when you must use waterproof eye-make-up products, make sure that you clean them out gently at the end of the day and water-proof, or otherwise, always remove your make-up before you sleep.

Be especially careful when you wear fake eyelashes or eyelashes extensions as removing them can require a bit of tugging which will result in pulling off your real eyelashes.

These are the things that you should be careful about, especially if you use make-up regularly, as make-up build-up can affect your lashes health in the long way run.

Also, don’t rub your eyes harshly, and as much as possible, sleep on your back as your eyes may rub against your below if you sleep on your stomach and fall off at night.

How to Promote Eyelash Growth during the Anagen and the Telogen Phase?

Your lashes grow naturally during both these phases, but they can be restricted or stunted due to certain factors such as lack of internal nutrition, too much pressure on your eyes, make-up products, and drying of the lashes.
