Moving home can go down as one of the most stressful things in life if not done well. However, when moving home is planned well, it doesn’t have to be stressful at all. When everything is put in place, there isn’t much that can go wrong.

So, what do you need to do when planning a move? Where do you start? Take a look at these moving tips to make your move as stress-free as possible.

1) Hire Movers

One of the best things you can do before doing anything else is hiring a professional moving company. Trying to arrange to move all your belongings without any help will be a big feat. Staff at a moving services company are trained to lift and carry heavy loads and pack them in a moving van safely.

In addition, all of your items will be covered by the moving company’s policies. If there are any breaks while your belongings are in transit, you could be compensated by the moving company.

2) Write a Schedule

You can’t pack everything the night before you move. Some items you’ll be able to pack a few weeks in advance, whereas others you’ll need to keep out until the last minute. Write down notes on how to plan a move, what to pack, and when to pack it.

It’s also handy to have a box of essentials to take with you in the car. For example, you may want to take your kettle, cups, milk, and tea bags so you can make everyone a cup of tea when you arrive in your new home.

3) Get Rid of What You Don’t Want

As you go through your belongings, you’ll come across things you haven’t seen in months or had forgotten about. Some of these things may be sentimental items that you know you want to keep. However, if they’re not sentimental items and you’d forgotten about them, it’s a good indication that you don’t need them.

Get rid of the items you no longer need or want. Otherwise, you risk taking things that will only cause clutter in your new home.

4) Pick up Packing Supplies

It’s surprising how many boxes you’ll need to pack up an entire house. There are house-packing box packs you can buy online, but it’s often just as easy to visit your local grocery store and ask them for any surplus cardboard boxes from their deliveries. Be sure to seal these boxes tightly with tape underneath before you start packing.

It’s also wise to pick up some bubble wrap for fragile items before you start packing. Any glass items or precious and breakable items could be wrapped in a towel before packing to keep them safe during travel.

Planning a Move: Do It Right

Planning a move doesn’t have to be stressful as long as you’re prepared. Start planning at least six weeks of your move and write everything down so you don’t forget anything.
